Is It Right for Me?

At least average physical fitness is required for this trip. You’ll be hiking for around 5 hours per day. It’s always a good idea to break-in any new hiking boots, and doing a few hours of rambling before the trip will be a great opportunity to do this while getting prepared for a great trek.

First-time hikers are welcome.

  1. Day 1 SANTIAGO

    A staff member will pick you up at Santiago’s international airport and take you to our partner bed and breakfast, located in the Providencia district just south of Santiago Metropolitan Park, which has several trails, a Japanese garden, and the National Zoo.

  2. Day 2 SANTIAGO TO PUNTA ARENAS TO PUERTO NATALES

    Wake up early for a pre-dawn flight to Chilean Patagonia. After a 3.5 hour flight, meet your local trekking guide in Punta Arenas who will then accompany you to Puerto Natales (3 hours bus ride). On the way to Puerto Natales, soak up the beautiful views of the ocean surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Explore the quaint town of Puerto Natales then spend the night at our partner lodge.

  3. Day 3 PUERTO NATALES TO REFUGIO LAS TORRES

    Take a morning hike on private land just outside the city to see recently uncovered archeological ruins. Afterward, enjoy a picnic before heading to the entrance gates of Torres del Paine and settling into Refugio Las Torres for the evening.

    Peak Altitude: 492 ft (150m)

  4. Day 4 REFUGIO LAS TORRES

    Start the trek with day packs as you ascend through a rocky terrain cut by pristine glacial rivers. Gain two thousand feet in elevation as you climb through a beautiful lenga forest until reaching the base of the towers. Another shorter climb will put you meters from the towers and the emerald lake that sits at their base. Return to the mountain lodge for the evening.

    Peak Altitude: 2,870 ft (875m)

    Total Hiking: approximately 12 miles (19 km) / 8 hours of trekking (*day pack only today)

  5. Day 5 REFUGIO LAS TORRES TO REFUGIO LOS CUERNOS

    Spend a majority of this part of the trek nestled on a trail between Lake Nordenskjold and Mount Almirante Nieto of the Paine Massif. Arrive to Refugio Los Cuernos, “The Horns”, nestled between the two famous horned peaks, Cerro Hoja and Cerro Máscara.

    Peak Altitude: 797 ft (243m)

    Total Hiking: approximately 7 miles (11.3 km) / 7-8 hours of trekking

  6. Day 6 REFUGIO LOS CUERNOS TO REFUGIO PAINE GRANDE

    Head out from Los Cuernos and hike through Torres’ old-growth forest. Pass by the French Camp and arrive to the Italian Camp, which is the start to the French Valley. At the Italian Camp, drop your full backpacks and repack your food, water and windbreaker into your daypack for the hike into the French Valley. If you’re feeling up to it, hike an additional 7 miles (5.5 km) round-trip into the French Valley for stunning 360 views of the park.

    Peak Altitude: 2,495 ft (760m)

    Total Hiking: approximately 9 miles (13 km) / 7-8 hours OR 17 miles (27km) / 12 hours of trekking

  7. Day 7 REFUGIO PAINE GRANDE TO REFUGIO GREY

    Hike to Grey Glacier, an impressive ice field that covers the west end of the park. Enjoy the beauty of Pehoé Lake and Grey Lake as you approach the glacier. In the afternoon, do an optional ice hike or kayak or relax on the porch of Refugio Grey.

    Peak Altitude: 820 ft (250m)

    Total Hiking: approximately 7 miles (11.3 km) / 4-5 hours trekking

    Inclusions: breakfast / lunch / dinner; accommodations

  8. Day 8 REFUGIO GREY

    On the final day of trekking, make your way along Grey’s Glacier toward Campamento Paso. Scale ladders and enjoy views of the glacier before returning to the lodge for dinner.

    Total Hiking: approximately 6-7 miles (9-11 km) / 6-8 hours trekking

  9. Day 9 REFUGIO GREY TO PUERTO NATALES

    Spend one final half day in the park. A 3-4 hour walk toward the lake will take you to the catamaran back to Pehoé and out of the park. Bus transportation will be awaiting your arrival to take the scenic ride back to Puerto Natales. Share a farewell dinner with your guide before a restful night in our partner lodge.

  10. Day 10 PUERTO NATALES TO SANTIAGO

    Take a bus to Punta Arenas and fly back to Santiago for a final evening in the city.

Hike Patagonia

Hike Patagonia package is one of the most iconic hikes in the world in one of the most pristine and beautiful locations. There are many hike tours offered by various companies to this region but Action Culture is proud to promote this Hike in Torres Del Paine trip as it is produced in a very careful way to ensure it is sustainable and has an extremely low impact on the environment while having a positive impact on the local communities. This is mainly achieved by implementing the principles of Leave No Trace and by contributing 10% of total revenue in the form of microcredit to local small-scale entrepreneurs. The aim is to minimize the environmental impact while ensuring the local communities benefit from the visits.

While the elevation is not much of a factor on this trip, daily mileage can range from 6-13 miles and 5-10 trekking hours per day.

This expedition requires at least average physical fitness. No technical skills are required, and first-time trekkers are welcome.

We always recommend that travelers break in their hiking boots before the expedition. Taking training hikes that mimic the mileage and amount of time you will be trekking in Patagonia is recommended.
