Sailing & Walking in Scotland
Knoydart Skye & Sailing on a traditional yacht, explores the islands and fjord-like lochs which make the fissured coastline of the west of Scotland so famous.
From the remote peninsula of Knoydart, often referred to as Scotland’s last wilderness, to the Isles of Skye and Rum with their dramatic rocky ridges, we will hike to otherwise hidden vantage points and enjoy superb walks accessed from beautiful white sandy beaches.
In coastal waters renowned for its diversity of wildlife, we have every chance of seeing whales, dolphins and a plethora of birdlife. Set against the backdrop of the islands’ fascinating history and culture, this maritime adventure makes for a truly unique and memorable holiday.
These memorable journeys are based aboard our yacht, Eda Frandsen. Eda is a classic and beautifully converted 70-year old Gaff Cutter. Lovingly restored by the skipper himself, she is extremely graceful and her rails and spars gleam with varnish. The rig is entirely traditional showing incredible workmanship. Down below, she is comfortable and well equipped, with a spacious saloon where we enjoy meals of the highest quality.
This Walking in Knoydart trip offers a unique chance to explore these beautiful Scottish islands in style, guided by our skipper, first-mate and a walking guide. The set-up of the boat is equally suited to experienced and novice sailors.
Please note that private charters, with or without walking guide, are also available – please contact us as early as possible to discuss dates.

Many people ask what the sailing conditions will be like and how they will be affected by sea sickness. The conditions will be varied from relaxing sailing in sheltered waters to some more challenging longer passages. In our experience, the worry of sickness is far greater than the reality. After a short while, most people begin to feel at home on the boat and are comfortable at sea. If you are particularly susceptible to motion-sickness, there are a range of medicines and natural remedies available, most of which are highly effective.
Sailing & Walking Holidays These trips are based aboard the yacht Eda Frandsen. With regards to the walking element of these trips, you will experience a range of walks throughout the week. On some days, you may hike only for 2 or 3 hours, while on other days you might spend 6 hours hiking up one of the peaks on Rum or traversing the Knoydart peninsula via a mountain pass. The underfoot hiking conditions can vary from good tracks to rough or boggy ground. Some of the routes will involve ascents of up to 2000ft / 600m. You will need a good level of fitness for these hikes, although if you prefer, you can opt out of the hike.
Sailing Sailing Journeys are are all about exploring the Inner and Outer Hebrides from the sea. Generally you can take as much to do with the sailing as you like, either grab the rigging or relax on deck with a sundowner. So in light of the above, you will need a reasonable level of fitness and agility to join one of these trips if you want to get involved with the sailing.

This trip took us to truly remote and lovely parts of the planet. The boat crew, James and Chloe, were competent and efficient but also very relaxed which made getting hands-on with the sailing fun, regardless of prior experience. Accommodations have been described as "cosy" which is true but they are also comfortable in a way that allowed the group to coalesce quickly. The meals were simply stellar, Michelin would definitely give Chloe's galley five stars. Kirsty's quiet confidence as a hiking guide allowed everyone to reach every goal, even those past their comfort zone.
Pre-Trip Service Really helpful team discussing options available Trip Comments Brilliant trip - Chloe James and Kirsty were amazing Accommodation and Food Chloe is an amazing cook and fuelled us so well for all the walking - nothing was too much trouble Be aware that sleeping on a boat is a small experience - comfortable clean and my roomy was fun - but it's a tiny space!! Your Guide Kirsty managed all the different abilities and paces really well so everyone got the experience they wanted from the walking The Bottom Line It was a wonderful life reaffirming trip which I thoroughly enjoyed - couldn't think of one thing which would have made it better.
