Snowshoe Tour for Beginners
2 Days, Graubünden, Switzerland
Here is a perfect opportunity to get away on a short winter activity holiday, discover the Swiss Alps, and learn to snowshoe. Our snowshoe tour for beginners is a 2-day snowshoe course, where your mountain guide will instruct you on technique as well as safety. All while snowshoeing across the high alpine region of Graubünden.
You don’t need any previous experience with snowshoes, or high alpine touring.
Something else that makes this short tour special is that you get the opportunity to dine and stay overnight in the Maighelshütte SAC 2310 m. The hut is one of many high alpine huts that are part of the Swiss Alpine Club. These huts are nestled high in the mountains and provide refuge for wearing mountaineers, hikers, and tourers. The food and ambiance are always special and the views are spectacular.
Equipment
Our mountain guide will bring the equipment to the meeting place. The following equipment can be arranged:
- Barryvox (Avalanche Transceiver)
- Avalanche Probe
- Avalanche Shovel
- Avalanche-Airbag-Backpack
- MSR Snowshoes
- (telescopic) Ski poles
- Eiger Extreme Hardshell Jacket to test
Clothing
- 1x ski jacket and 1x ski pants (Gore-Tex or similar material)
- 1x Softshell and/or fleece jacket
- 1x Short/long functional underwear
- 1x Beanie and 1x headband
- 2 pairs of gloves (1 thin pair, 1 warm, windproof and waterproof pair)
- 1x Functional socks and 1x spare socks
- Warm, robust winter shoes, must be lace-able and have solid soles or mountain boots
In the Hut
- Own toiletries, earplugs if required
- Clothes to wear in the hut (Minimum)
- Slipper socks are provided at the hut
- Sleeping bag liner made of silk or cotton (for hygienic reasons)
- SAC/Alpine Club member card (if you have one)
Food
- Breakfast and dinner are at the hut
- Tea and lunch must be brought or can be bought at the hut
- Snacks (e.g. energy bars, dried fruit, dried meat)
Other Things
- Sunglasses and ski goggles
- Sun cream and lip cream (SPF 30 or higher)
- Camera and binoculars (optional)
- Half fare travelcard (if you have one)
- Thermos flask made from break-proof material
- Headlamp or flashlight with new batteries

Course Aim
Depending on your personal fitness levels, by the end of the tour, you will be able to take part in easy to moderate snowshoe tours e.g. Schanfigg-Prättigau, Val Müstair, etc.
