UNBOUND… MERINO, Naturally.
“OK, let me test them in the mountains and I’ll get back to you.”
That’s how it started.

As an active person living in Switzerland, I need to be ready for any weather. As an Australian living in Switzerland, it’s the cold I fear most. That’s why, over the years, I’ve built the perfect set of layers that will keep me comfortable doing any sport in any weather. So, I didn’t think I needed anything else.
I was wrong.
Turns out I needed a simple hoodie.
Over the past couple of months, I’ve been skiing the last powder sessions of the season, hiking the first sunny Spring days, working as a Bungy jumpmaster on a 220M dam wall, as well as doing the shopping and walking the dog.
All the time wearing my new favourite piece of clothing, my new merino hoodie from Unbound
I’m not new to merino wool. In fact, I only have merino as my base layer. It’s always comfortable because it allows your skin to breathe. It’s also lovely and warm when you need it most.
So, when I was first introduced to Unbound I didn’t think their urban wear would interest me, I just focused on the long underwear. But, I agreed to test a few items…
# 1 Compact Travel Hoodie

This was the big surprise for me! My new favourite piece of clothing. Why, because it is simply so comfortable that you don’t even feel like you’re wearing a hoodie. It fits snugly under another jacket or coat if needed, and it does all of that magic that only merino wool can. Keeping you warm and comfortable without needing to wash it often.
I use the hoodie in both urban environments, like getting around town or going out for dinner, and for active days when I’m in the mountains or bungy jumping people in cold rainy conditions.
I can not recommend this hoodie enough. Not only is it ridiculously comfortable but, like all of these merino products, it stays fresh and odor-free without the need to wash for a truly surprising amount of time. Allowing you to dramatically reduce the amount of clothes you need with you at any time. That’s priceless.
# 2 Long Underwear
As I wrote previously, for me, merino is absolutely the best material for long underwear (base layer). It’s a must-have item. Comfortable, breathable, and warm. So, I wasn’t surprised when I tested the Unbound Long Underwear skiing and snowshoeing in the central Swiss Alps. They were just as I expected, great.
If you don’t already have long underwear made with merino wool, get some.
# 3 Socks
These are not technical socks, like trekking or ski socks, which have complicated stitching and weaves of varying materials to provide a certain shape and form. These are more like, well, socks. They just look like an everyday pair of socks. But, don’t be fooled, these are, as you know by now, merino wool socks.
Because they’re merino wool, they keep you seriously warm and comfortable but importantly, for socks, they don’t get smelly. That makes them the perfect pair for active travel.
Merino wool is still the best, naturally.
So, finally we have clothes that look good no matter what the occasion, rarely need washing and still stay fresh and odourless. Allowing you to reduce your pack size without compromise.
So, make absolutely sure your base layers are merino wool, and check out the other surprisingly good merino wool gear at UNBOUND MERINO. You might just find your next favourite piece of clothing too.
